As an organisation, the Humanist Association of Scotland exists to promote the principles and practice of secular Humanism throughout Scotland and one of the ways in which we do this is by conducting Humanist ceremonies.
Following an article published in the Sunday Post on 26 October 2025, which raises several questions about the current landscape of the wedding industry, we wish to provide reassurance to all couples who have entrusted us with their marriage ceremonies.
The Humanist Association of Scotland is an Approved Belief Group, authorised by the Registrar General for Scotland to solemnise legal marriages.
This is both a privilege and a responsibility that we undertake with the utmost respect, dignity, and professionalism. All HAS Celebrants are subject to a comprehensive training programme in accordance with our best practice. Every ceremony conducted under our name reflects our core Humanist values and, importantly, every marriage ceremony conducted by one of our Celebrants is legally recognised.
We take great care to ensure that we work within the guidelines provided by the National Records of Scotland to provide couples with a meaningful ceremony which aligns with their own beliefs and the values underpinned in our constitution.
If you have any further queries, please get in touch and we will be happy to assist.
